Fakri has over 25 years of experience in both the public and private sectors in sustainable development. For the past 10 years he has focused substantially on climate finance across multiple sectors, promoting public and private investment through blended finance approaches.
Prior to joining the Clean Air Fund, he initiated and later served as the Senior Advisor to the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) Smart Green ASEAN Cities (SGAC) programme to promote sustainable urbanisation in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) by investing in green and smart city solutions.
Globally, from 2011 to 2019, he led the start-up and scale-up of the Local Climate Adaptive Living Facility (LoCAL), a UNCDF global facility empowering local governments in least developed countries (LDCs) to access climate finance for resilient investments. This facility has now been adopted globally to enhance resilience in both LDCs and small island developing states (SIDS). During this period he was a key member of UNCDF’s global advocacy team playing a key role in advocating the role of local government in addressing climate change impacts.
Why Fakri works for Clean Air Fund:
Air pollution is a major environmental and health crisis, causing millions of premature deaths and contributing to climate change. Ensuring clean air is a vital part of creating a sustainable future. Joining the Clean Air Fund will allow me to directly contribute to solving this urgent problem and creating a healthier future for everyone.
