Hugo has a background in diplomacy, multilateralism and climate change within the UK government. Most recently, he worked on World Trade Organization reform in the Department of Business and Trade, and previously he led the UK’s G7 and G20 trade tracks.
He has also worked in the Cabinet Office and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. In the Cabinet Office, he spent three years in the UNFCCC COP unit, leading international engagement campaigns ahead of COP26 and COP27, and through the G7 and G20, to deliver on nationally determined contribution ambition, phasing out coal, and reducing fossil fuel financing.
