Mpendulo Dlamini is an environmental professional specialising in air quality and climate change. He has experience in both the private sector as well as South Africa’s public sector, having served at all spheres of government; from national and provincial to local. He completed a Master’s Degree at the University of Cape Town, specialising in Climate Budget Tagging and Public Sector Climate Finance.
Prior to joining Clean Air Fund, Mpendulo was a Programme Manager, leading the implementation of the Vaal Triangle Airshed Priority Area (VTAPA) Air Quality Management Plan, in one of the most air polluted regions in South Africa.
His work focused on air quality management, regulatory implementation, and cross-sector environmental policy. He further worked on strengthening institutional systems that protect public health, improve environmental accountability, and support sustainable development. He brings a practical understanding of how legislation, governance frameworks, and technical evidence translate into effective implementation.
Through his work in the public environmental sector, Mpendulo has contributed to multi-level coordination, compliance processes, and stakeholder engagement aimed at improving delivery and institutional capacity.
Working for the Clean Air Fund in the South Africa Cities Portfolio to me means achieving my long-standing desire of always staying committed to supporting change and the people driving it in the pursuit of cleaner air and better health outcomes. I am motivated by the opportunity to contribute to initiatives that balance environmental protection, social equity, and long-term prosperity for communities.
