This project aims to engage shipping stakeholders on International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulation to reduce shipping black carbon emissions in the Arctic through the use of cleaner fuels and bring a proposal forward to the IMO for approval in 2026. It will also progress practical measures to reduce black carbon emissions from Arctic shipping.

This project will develop a collection of photographs of black carbon to help bring focus on the pollutant in an engaging and human-focused. The free images will be provided as an accessible communications resource for the clean air and climate communities globally.

The project aims to correct the misconception that reducing black carbon offers limited climate benefits. By focusing on India, where high-quality observational data exists, it will use real‑world measurements to improve models of black carbon and brown carbon impacts. This work will produce more accurate metrics that better capture the climate, health, and regional benefits of reducing these pollutants.

This project aims to raise awareness of the importance of black carbon mitigation in air quality and climate policy communities.

This project will produce a report making the case for action on tropospheric ozone to be launched at COP29. It will also deliver a longer-term roadmap for engagement beyond COP from 2025-2030

Support for the WHO in organising this global conference aimed at securing strong commitments governments and city leaders to address air pollution. Including support enabling attendance from senior government representatives, researchers and campaigners from the Global South and for WHO to synthesise the latest evidence of health impacts of air pollution and benefits of air quality solutions.

SPARTAN calibrates satellite data used in health impact assessments and epidemiological studies informing PM2.5 exposure standards. This grant will improve SPARTAN’s capacity to generate tailored air quality data for low-capacity, data-poor settings.

HabitatMap, a nonprofit air quality sensor maker committed to open data and grassroots action, will use this grant to strengthen its community outreach and better understand how its sensors support local environmental campaigns.

Smoglab, the main environmental news portal, generates media and social media coverage on air quality and sustainable mobility in Poland. In addition, Smoglab issues a regular "Clean Air Barometer" - tool allowing to track the progress of needed air-quality policies.

With open waste burning a major source of pollution in Ghana, this project aims to design and build a sustainable model for waste collection and management in Accra.
