Two-year pilot fellowship programme to support eight students in undertaking an MSc in Air Pollution Management and Control at University of Birmingham

This grant will build demand for clean air and catalyse and connect a group of youth-led advocates for clean air in Cape Town, Accra, Lagos and during COP27. It will raise awareness of the problem of air pollution as a health and climate risk in African cities, the inadequate measurement in the target cities, and the potential for clean air access to support physical activity. It will also provide a proof of concept and learnings towards the widespread use of wearable monitoring to achieve campaigning and advocacy goals.

To build understanding and trust in the scientific evidence on air pollution and health, empowering and working with a committed local network of scientists and physicians to produce scientific assessments and to serve as trusted spokespeople to the public, NGOs and the government

To ensure that credible evidence on the impacts of air pollution on people’s health and on effective solutions is better communicated and understood at a local and global level, and that this data is delivered to decision makers in a way that informs and drives ambitious action towards cleaner air.

To support Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah's world-class campaigning to drive demand for, and delivery of, stronger action from the UK Government on clean air.

To develop an enthusiastic core of Councillors and MPs who will champion clean air policies to their colleagues.

To assess the real-world emissions of the vehicle fleet in Delhi, India, to inform policy actions that reduce transport emissions and help the city to meet its clean air action plan goals.

To understand and raise awareness of air pollution and climate emissions in Providence, advance use of lower-cost air quality monitoring data, support improved policy and environmental initiatives and enable Brown University to support the City of Providence’s health, wellness and climate related goals.

To support a global network of advanced PM2.5 monitoring sites that improves the quality of global air quality data resources (e.g. global health impact assessments) by improving satellite data and global-scale air quality models.

To develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Decision Support System (DSS) for Lucknow (UP) to integrate air quality from various sources data at one point.
